The origins of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs can be traced to the mid-1200s, when King Louis IX of France wanted to bring order to the many existing trades and guilds, including the Goose Roasters Guild. Then, in 1509,King Louis XII introduced new statutes which resulted in the Guild's name being changed to “Rôtisseurs”. The Guild subsequently was given a royal charter in 1610 by King Louis XIII.
For over four centuries the “Confrérie (Brotherhood) of the Roasters developed and refined high standards of professionalism and quality that were appropriate to the splendor of the “Royal Table.” However, the entire guild system was disbanded in 1793 during the French Revolution. Virtually forgotten until its resurrection in 1950 by a few French gourmands, today the Society attracts both professional and non-professional members world-wide who share an appreciation for wine and fine dining.
Our local chapter was founded in 1993, and for many years enjoyed the unparalleled patronage of a company whose leadership spared no expense in creating and sponsoring many memorable dinners for our members.
The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on countless businesses and organizations is well known to all of us. When it became necessary for our benefactors to step back from the Chaîne, it left a void that few, if any, chapters have ever experienced. A completely new infrastructure and leadership had to be created from scratch. New protocols were required and our ship had to be pointed in a different direction. Assembling a new team required dedicated, talented and enthusiastic individuals who were ready and willing to contribute to our future long-term success.
Though we're fortunate to live in the “Entertainment Capital of the World”, where outstanding restaurants are abundant, there are many, many groups and organizations who are vying for the same dining destinations. Contacts had to be made, relationships begun and countless venues had to be accessed and evaluated.
For our first dinner in 2-1/2 years, we came together in August, 2022 at Hospitality Hall on the UNLV campus for a tremendous “welcome back” event. Their state-of-the-art kitchen provided the palette for the instructors and students in the school's Harrah College of Hospitality to create an elegant and sophisticated meal, which was enhanced by full wine parings. (Please read all about in the “Past Dinners” section.)
As we continued our “new beginning”, the fruits of our invigorated labor resulted in another very special dinner that was held in April, 2023 in the brand new MY Asia restaurant located in the Horseshoe Casino (formerly Bally's) on the Strip. (Also see the “Past Dinners” section.)
Following on the heels of the successful MY Asia dinner, our members and guests came together in June, 2023 at Ferraro’s Italian Restaurant as we held our first Induction Dinner since 2019. Nine new members were welcomed into the Chapter, and the meal and wines were superbly suited to the event. (Read more in the “Past Dinners” section.)
Our next dinner, in September, 2023 was held at a venue like no other: the fabulous Liberace Mansion that was built in the early 70's, and has since been fully restored to all its original glory. Outstanding food and wines were accompanied by vocal and musical selections of some of Liberace's favorite songs. (More information in the "Past Dinners" section.)
And our year-ending December event was held at the Bistecca Italian Steakhouse in the Tuscany Suites and Casino, where the flavors of Northern Italy were perfectly captured while our members and guests enjoyed the vocals of Drew Anthony, who portrays Dean Martin in the award-winning tribute group, "The Rat Pack is Back".
Additional, exciting dinners are actively being planned. Be sure to regularly visit this website, and join us as we make the Las Vegas Chaîne even more outstanding in the future. We look forward to your company. Vive la Chaîne!
